Rapp-it pipe repair bandage frequently asked questions page

Q. Is Rapp-it only a temporary measure, or can the bandage be used as a permanent repair?

A. Rapp-it is a temporary repair for onsite emergency situations. However, Rapp-it has been known to last many years with sound structural repairs. Ultimately, this is up to the discretion of the user.

Q. If the leaky pipe cannot be isolated, can Rapp-it Bandages still be used?

A. Yes, Rapp-it can be used to stem the flow until an alternative procedure can be completed.

Q. If the pipe has a small leak and is unable to be completely dry, can Rapp-it be used?

A. Absolutely. Rapp-it Bandages are ideal for use in wet applications.

Q. Can Rapp-it be used underwater?

A. Yes, both Rapp-it Pipe Repair Bandage and Rapp-it Steel Putty can be used underwater. The curing time may vary due to temperature of water.

Q. Is Rapp-it suitable for use on pipes with larger diameters?

A. A Rapp-it Bandage application involves a mechanical bind as well as a chemical adhesion. It is important that when applying Rapp-it, it is pulled extremely tightly around the circumference of the pipe. This ensures a strong mechanical repair, resulting in a more successful application. However, on larger diameter pipes less torque can be applied and therefore this can result in a less suitable repair. By using multiple bandages, greater internal pressure ratings may be achieved on larger diameter pipes.

Q. What is the recommended thickness of Rapp-it?

A. We suggest the thickness of the Rapp-it Bandage to be a minimum of 10mm.

Q. What is the curing time for Rapp-it Bandages?

A. The curing time is approximately 30 minutes.

Q. Can repairs be done using the bandage only?

A. Yes, although a combination of Rapp-it Steel Putty along with the bandage should produce a more successful repair.

Q. Does Rapp-it have an expiry date?

A.Rapp-it's shelf life is approximately 2 years from date of purchase if stored below 25°C (77°F), and the aluminium packet is not punctured.
